Welcome to MyLawyerLink. This guide gets you from an empty account to one client and one case so you can explore the rest of the platform on real data.

Before you start

  • You need an active subscription (14-day free trial counts). If you are redirected to pricing after signup, choose a plan and complete checkout โ€” you will not be charged until the trial ends.
  • You need permission to create clients and cases on your team.

Step 1: Create a client

  1. Open Clients from the main menu (/clients).
  2. Click New client (or go to /clients/new).
  3. Enter at least first name, last name, and a phone or email (needed later for portal invites and messaging).
  4. Save.

You can add more contact details, custom fields, and notes anytime from the client profile.

Step 2: Open a new case

  1. From the client profile, click New case, or go to Cases โ†’ New (/cases/new).
  2. Select the client you just created.
  3. Enter a title (e.g. "Smith โ€” DUI defense") and optional case number, status, and case type.
  4. Save.

The case page is your hub for documents, time entries, events, messages, and calls for that matter.

Step 3: Add one calendar event

  1. On the case page, open the Events section or go to Events & Calendar (/events).
  2. Click Add event.
  3. Pick a type (e.g. Court date, Deadline, or Meeting), set the date, and save.

Events appear on your firm calendar and can sync to external calendars via calendar feeds.

Step 4: Log your first time entry (optional)

  1. On the case page, open Time entries or go to /time-entries/new.
  2. Enter duration, description, and mark the entry billable if it applies.
  3. Save.

Billable entries that are not yet on an invoice show as unbilled time when you create an invoice later. See Track time and create invoices.

Step 5: Explore what is next

From your new case you can:

  • Upload documents in the Documents section
  • Call or text the client if Twilio is configured for your firm
  • Invite the client to the portal โ€” Set up the client portal
  • Generate a letter from a template โ€” Document templates
