Creating SMS Templates
Create reusable SMS templates with merge fields, attachments, and categories. Use them from Account settings or the message widget.
SMS templates save time when you send the same kinds of messages repeatedly โ appointment reminders, document requests, or quick status updates.
Open SMS Templates
Go to Account โ SMS Templates (/account/sms-templates).
You need team permission to manage templates and an active subscription.
Create a template
Click New template (or Create template).
Enter a name (required) โ something staff will recognize in a list.
Optionally set a category to group templates (for example "Reminders" or "Intake").
Write the message body. Use merge fields for client or case data:
Hi {{client_first_name}}, this is {{attorney_label}}. Your hearing for {{case_title}} is on {{event_date}} at {{event_time}}.Use the Available variables panel to insert placeholders at the cursor. It lists fields that are guaranteed to resolve: client, case, event, date, practice, and configured custom fields.
Optionally attach MMS files (images or PDFs) โ up to five attachments per template.
Save the template.
Field names match document merge fields. Use underscore keys such as {{client_first_name}} for consistency with the picker.
Edit or delete a template
- Click a template in the list to edit name, category, body, or attachments.
- Delete removes the template. If calendar events still reference the template for automated SMS, you may need to pick a replacement template before deletion completes.
Use a template in a conversation
- Open the message widget from the header (or start a thread from a client record).
- Select the client's conversation.
- Click Insert template and choose your template.
- MyLawyerLink fills merge fields using that client and their case when one is linked to the thread.
- Review the message, then send.
Always read the filled message before sending โ especially dates, times, and names.
Conditional content (advanced)
Some templates support conditional blocks summarized in the template editor. Keep conditions simple and test with real cases before relying on them in client-facing messages.
Compliance reminders
- Send SMS only to clients who have opted in where your jurisdiction requires it.
- Keep messages professional and concise.
- Templates do not replace judgment about what belongs in a given channel.
